The Addiction Education Program is the proud recipient of the 2007/08 National Award for Continuing Education Program Excellence.  This award is granted by the Canadian Association for University Continuing Education (www.cauce-aepuc.ca).  Programs are judged on their value, complexity, ingenuity and innovation.

For over twenty years McMaster has offered a comprehensive education to social service and health science professionals, and those aspiring to enter these fields. 

Program objectives

The Addiction Education programs were developed in partnership with the Faculty of Social Sciences to provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills for working with people with addictions. Courses are designed to help you:  

understand addictions and approaches to intervention, including assessment, treatment, relapse prevention, case management and self-help develop or enhance individual and group counselling techniques

explore specific needs of individuals and groups including, women, youth, the elderly, adult children of alcoholics, people with concurrent disorders or other disabilities and people with problem gambling
