Services
are provided in the clinic and in the community outreach locations throughout
a broad service area. Travel
required.
The
OSI Clinic provides specialized mental health assessment and treatment to
clients and their families referred by Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), RCMP,
and the Department of National Defense (DND), who are experiencing
work-related psychological stress and trauma (e.g. Posttraumatic Stress
Disorder, and other anxiety disorders; Depression; Chronic Pain, etc.).
The services of the OSI Clinic are provided by an interdisciplinary
team consisting of a psychiatrist, psychologists, nurse clinicians and a
social worker. As a member of an
interdisciplinary team, the social worker delivers mental health treatment
services to Veterans and their families and works collaboratively with other
staff in a range of services.
Duties:

Provide
direct support, therapeutic interventions, education and counseling to
veterans and family
·
Conduct
comprehensive client assessments (include discipline specific and
interdisciplinary assessment instruments, client self-assessment, family
assessment, and reports by other service providers, etc.)
·
Develop
and conduct groups at the clinic and outreach locations
·
Participate
fully in team based treatment planning and case reviews.
Monitor and evaluate veterans, revise service plans with other service
providers to ensure appropriateness and relevancy.

Write
discharge reports with follow up recommendations, including community linkages
·
Engage
and motivate veterans in services of the OSI clinic
·
Work
effectively with an interdisciplinary team
·
Participate
in the design, implementation and evaluation of program services to meet the
needs of the program and also collaborate in program development and research
·
Provide
education and support for community based service providers (VAC DO)
·
Train
students, colleagues and other professionals on topics relevant to expertise
·
Coordinate care by liaising with
internal, community, and external service providers
·
Build
effective collaborative working relationships with external stakeholders and
care providers
·
Participate
in Social Work meetings, staff development and clinical audit groups
·
Supervise
the placement of Social Work students
·
Other
duties as required and as the OSIC develop
Qualifications:
- Masters
in Social Work
- Minimum
3, of the past 5, years experience as a Social Worker providing services
in Mental Health
- Recent
community experience is mandatory
- Registered
Social Worker with the
Ontario
College
of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
- Eligibility
for membership in OASW
- Knowledge
about addictions, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and PTSD
- Experience
working in an interdisciplinary service delivery model is mandatory
- Experience
in a military or police services environment an asset.
- Sensitivity
to the particular challenges of Veterans and serving members with
service-related mental health issues and their families
- Experience
in conflict resolution and possess strong advocacy skills
- CPI;
WHMIS training; and fire training updates in the last 12 months
- Completion
of Suicide Intervention workshop is an asset
- Bilingualism
(French/English) level A- is mandatory in oral expression and
comprehension
- Access
to a car, in good working condition, proper insurance coverage, and
ability to travel is mandatory. Valid
driver's license and insurance is mandatory.
