An opportunity exists for one RN on a part time basis within the Chemical Dependency Program. This position works across the inpatient and outpatient Addictions and Mental Health Program areas   This person works primarily with individuals who require withdrawal management.

 

HOURS OF WORK (SUBJECT TO CHANGE):

·        Monday to Friday, primarily days, some evening work will be required

·        This position is primarily at the Keele Street site (subject to change); inter site travel may be required.

 

DUTIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

·        Assessment and motivational counseling for chemically dependent patients with co-morbid psychiatric and/or medical disorders.

·        Ability to match patients to the appropriate level of care and facilitate post discharge treatment planning.

·        Collaborate with all relevant treatment providers to facilitate individualized plan of care.

·        Knowledge of the addictions treatment system and an ability to facilitate the addiction treatment application process preferred.

·        Deliver individual/group therapy for patient's and their families.

·        Perform psychiatric and physical assessment of referred patients.

·        Support to the Mental Health Outpatient/Addiction Services as required.

·        Help to enhance inpatient staff member's knowledge base re: care for chemically dependent patients through role modeling,

      discussion and delivery of unit based education sessions. 

·        Participate in quality assurance activities and complete relevant data collection for statistical purposes (eg. DATIS).

·        Other related duties as required.

 

PRE-REQUISITES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

·        Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

·        Current BCLS/CPR certification required.

·        BScN or a degree in health sciences preferred.

·        Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing required, or willingness to obtain within one year of hire.

·        Five years recent mental health/addiction nursing experience preferred.       

·        Demonstrated ability to provide individual/group counseling for chemically dependent patients

·        Excellent psychiatric/addiction assessment skills, including demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention skills.

·        Experience in medical withdrawal management preferred.

·        Demonstrates awareness, tolerance and understanding in working with individuals from different cultures.

·        Demonstrates an excellent understanding re: the etiology of addiction and mental health illnesses.

·        Good knowledge of the Mental Health Act.

·        Demonstrated excellent communication skills

·        Excellent interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills, with an ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.

·        Must be able to work effectively in a fast paced environment.

·        Demonstrates initiative and creativity in the workplace.

·        Must be able to work individually as well as work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team..

·        A positive attendance record.
