Addiction Clinician

Halton Early Intervention in Psychosis Program, ADAPT

Position Summary

 

The ADAPT Addiction/Concurrent Disorder Worker linked to Halton¿s Early Intervention in Psychosis Program will work in an integrated manner with the core clinical groups to deliver a range of substance abuse specific services. These services will be provided concurrently with the core clinical groups. Treatment modalities will include cognitive behavioral treatment, motivational interviewing and harm reduction strategies.  The addiction clinician will provide services throughout Halton in conjunction with the five partner organizations: Halton Healthcare Services, Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital , North Halton Mental Health Clinic, the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario (Halton Branch) and ADAPT (Halton Region¿s community based substance abuse and problem gambling treatment program).    

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The following addiction specific clinical and system development services related to the program will be performed by an ADAPT addiction clinician on either an office based or outreach basis:

 


  1. Assist with development and implementation of the progeram¿s system-wide substance abuse consultation, screening and referral protocols.
  2.  To provide comprehensive substance abuse assessment, treatment, follow-up, relapse prevention and early intervention services.
  3. To provide concurrent disorder group leadership, as required.
  4. To provide substance abuse related services to families, as required.
  5.  To provide crisis intervention, when necessary.
  6.  To provide motivational and supportive counseling and case management when substance abuse is a primary factor pertaining to the client¿s psychosis.
  7.  To provide support specific to life skills, daily living skills, conflict resolution, crisis intervention and prevention, and community integration as appropriate.
  8.  To conduct case conferences/consultation with treatment providers, including physicians, other community organizations and other significant persons, as deemed appropriate.
  9.  To advocate on behalf of clients.
  10.  To maintain a collaborative working relationship with Halton substance abuse and mental health treatment agencies.
  11. Create sustainable Concurrent Disorder knowledge transfer mechanisms for partners. 
  12.  To collaborate with partner staff to establish cross sector training sessions for the transfer of basic addiction skills.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • BSW, MSW, R.N., or degree in health or social sciences with specialized addictions training.  
  • Minimum of three years work experience in Addictions and Mental Health services.
  • Experience in a clinical psychiatric setting, e.g., specialized schizophrenia unit.
  • Strong clinical skills in assessment and counseling.
  • Experienced family intervention skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently.
  • Demonstrated skills in community development/planning
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Valid driver¿s license and access to a vehicle.
